ACLS Certification by State

Why we offer our ACLS certification online

The main reason that the founders of ACLS Medical Training decided to offer their top-quality ACLS certification, PALS certification, and BLS certification courses online was a matter of convenience. Brick-and-mortar ACLS certification and recertification classes are just too inconvenient in today’s hectic medical system. As the number of medical professionals has increased over the past two decades, the number of opportunities for brick-and-mortar ACLS certification has decreased. At the same time, length of a certification course has been increasing—now up to two full days!—even though the content covered by the American Heart Association (AHA) has largely stayed the same.

Traditional ACLS certification classes are fewer and farther between

ACLS certification, and especially ACLS recertification, in brick-and-mortar has become a chore rather than a refresher or enjoyable learning experience. Medical professionals may be forced to shutter their practices, call off a shift, find peers to cover, or even use precious vacation or weekend days to recertify in life support. If you practice in a large city like New York or San Francisco, you may not need to travel too far, but you still must wait until the next course is offered. Plus, you have to make a space in your calendar to meet it. The situation is even worse for practitioners in remote areas of the country. Medical professionals sometimes have to travel hundreds of miles to attend the nearest brick-and-mortar ACLS course, covering the cost of their own travel and lodgings.

Traditional ACLS certification classes travel at the speed of the instructor

One of the biggest gripes that medical professionals have with ACLS recertification is that these courses are taught at the speed of the instructor, not the speed of the learner. The examination comes at the end of the course—you need to show up and sit through 1-2 days of trainings just to take the exam. If you already have a working knowledge of advanced life support and just need a refresher, traditional brick-and-mortar classes can seem like a profound waste of time. Ideally, providers could learn the material and take the test on their own time. This is perhaps the biggest reason that ACLS Medical Training offers their content and examination online—to meet the needs of busy medical professionals.

Online ACLS certification

When we first adapted our content to an online environment, one concern that our first users voiced was whether initial ACLS certification could or should be done online (they understood and were immediately excited by online recertification). Some users worried that they needed to have a brick-and-mortar class in order to learn the material the first time. While this is a reasonable concern, after you compare what is offered in a live course vs. our online training system, you will find that the difference between the two is negligible. The main and perhaps only true difference between brick-and-mortar ACLS and online ACLS classes is the skills test. With the exception of high-fidelity simulation devices, most skills tests use less expensive, low-quality manikins that do not adequately simulate humans. Even with high-fidelity simulation manikins, researchers find that didactic training is the core  feature of ALCS certification training. Moreover, using a simulation exercise does not improve students’ knowledge of ACLS more than a lecture.1 This means that even though the more expensive, high-fidelity BLS simulators are a nice addition to ACLS and PALS certification courses, these devices do not improve learning.1 While the people who offer live ACLS courses do a praiseworthy job, all of the material that they present has been gleaned from AHA recommendations—just like the comprehensive training systems we offer at ACLS Medical Training.

Online ACLS certification is in your state and in your city

ACLS Medical Training looks at ACLS, PALS, and BLS classes differently than most do. We are offering a class in your city and your state right now. When the materials are online, you can study them when you have the time. You can take the certification examination when you are ready, not when the whole class or the instructor is ready. ACLS Medical Training cuts out the cost of travel and lodging because there is always a class available when you are available. Whether you are in Cincinnati, Ohio or Anchorage, Alaska, if you have an internet connection, you can become certified
