Online ACLS, BLS, and PALS Certification for Louisiana Medical Professionals

Louisiana needs more certified ACLS providers!

Louisiana ranked poorly in the 2012 survey of the overall health of states’ residents. The state claimed the 49th spot in the nation. Louisiana is the second to worst state in regards to its residents’ health. The state placed 49th in the health categories of obesity with a 33.4 percent occurrence and a 10 percent frequency of babies with low birth weight. Nearly 1.2 million adult residents are considered obese in the state.

Louisiana also ranked among the bottom five states in its rate of diabetes at 11.8 percent and prevalence of high blood pressure at 38.4 percent. Incidence of heart attack was at 5.1 percent while prevalence of heart disease sat at 4.9 percent.

Public health funding increased during the past five years from $69 to $102 per Louisiana resident. The prevalence of uninsured individuals also increased in Louisiana this past year from 17.2 percent of the population to 20.3 percent.

There are 112 short-term general hospitals holding 15,543-staffed beds for Louisiana’s more than 4.5 million population. And the rate of available primary care doctors within the state stands at 116.9 per 100,000 people.

Other challenges Louisiana faces include a high prevalence of children living in poverty, high rate of infant mortality, and a high occurrence of residents living a sedentary lifestyle.

However, high school graduation rates in Louisiana increased last year from 63.5 to 67.3 percent of ninth graders graduating in four years. Also, there is a low incidence of binge drinking and a high rate of immunization.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) teaches skill sets to individuals that will assist in delivering life-saving care to children. Incorporating the 2010 edition handbook from the American Heart Association (AHA), the course teaches individuals to develop the abilities necessary to swiftly and accurately assess a child’s condition before taking action. Excellent team interaction and coordination are accentuated as an essential aspect of resuscitating a child.

However, an individual must complete Basic Life Support (BLS) training before he or she can successfully conclude a PALS course. Available through this website, BLS tests are the building blocks on which Louisiana residents become capable of responding to both children and adults in emergency circumstances.

Providers should revisit a BLS course when advances are made in the field of cardiac care, which will cause AHA to adjust the guidelines for BLS. Course instructors train students in one and two person team resuscitations as part of the “Chain of Survival.”

Cardiac arrests are currently responsible for the highest number of fatalities throughout the world. The tests offered on this website could very well help to save lives in Louisiana.

BLS is incorporated into Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) during responding to cardiac and neurological emergencies. By stepping in early on during cardiac dysrhythmias, you could increase a person’s probability of survival.

PALS, BLS and ACLS certified providers aid individuals to survive potentially fatal circumstances.
