What Is First Aid Certification & Recertification?
First aid certification trains healthcare professionals to recognize and respond to common medical emergencies and injuries, from severe bleeding and burns to allergic reactions, seizures, and sudden illness, and to keep a patient stable until advanced care takes over. It also covers choking, opioid-associated emergencies, epinephrine auto-injector use, and the legal protections for responders acting in good faith. It does not include CPR or AED training.
First aid recertification lets professionals who already hold this credential renew it and refresh their skills against current guidance.
First Aid Certification vs. Recertification: Which Do I Need?
- Recertification is for professionals who hold a current first aid credential. It's a refresh of skills you already have.
- Certification is for first-time learners. It's the full course from the ground up.
Use the Get Certified / Get Recertified selector above to choose the right path and get started.
How First Aid Recertification Works
Recertifying means reviewing current first aid guidance, then passing the online exam. Once you pass, you'll receive a certificate valid for 2 years.
